In 2006, Chuck Haines decided to open a brewery in Williamsburg after being inspired by his time in Europe to share his love of authentic, craft-brewed ales with Virginia.
Chuck set out on this mission to brew delicious craft beer back in a time where Craft Beer had not become as mainstream as it is today, but with his perseverance Chuck was able to establish a foothold in this now popular and growing industry.

Co-founders, Eric McKay and Patrick Murtaugh, were introduced at a young age through the friendship of their parents. Years down the road, a well-timed meet-up at a sheep station in Australia, brought their passion for homebrewing and craft beer culture into sharp focus. It was there, at Hardywood Park, where they shared their first glass of full-flavored home-brewed beer. That day inspired ten years of hard work and planning — Eric on the business side and Patrick on the brewing side — and brought their dream into reality with the launch of Hardywood Park Craft Brewery.

The story of Bold Rock Hard Cider starts with an unlikely partnership between two guys from different sides of the world. These two salt-of-the-earth characters – one a southern gentlemen, the other an affable bloke – founded Bold Rock in June of 2012 and since that time it has become the nation’s largest independently-owned cider company.

"In 2016, we went out on our own and envisioned a place full of unlimited, untapped brewing territory and promise — a domain pioneered by those who don’t believe they have drank, brewed or ideated it all. Free from dictated rule, one-sided palates and predefined recipes entrenched in centuries of repetition and stubborn routine, our brewmaster and group of master beer drinkers broke brewing ground in the heart of Atlanta and established what we hope is just the beginning for our new brewing venture."

The story about Devils Backbone Brewing Company goes like this.
"Years ago, our founders, Steve and Heidi Crandall, were on a ski trip in the Alps when they tried their first craft beer, a German Weisse at a brewpub."
So to satisfy their thirst for a local haunt that served craft European-style beers, they started a whole brewery complete with a full-on brewpub for locals and visitors. It became a place where folks could drink and tell stories about their time on the trail or ski slope, or all of the above.

In 2014, Tradition started sketching out plans to build the first craft brewery in Newport News. From the beginning, the goal was to create a space where people from all walks of life could find commonalities and camaraderie over quality craft beer. And to have a little fun along the way. In 2016, they opened their doors to the public.
The Featured Beer we will have from Tradition at the Urbanna Oyster Festival is:
That Damn Mary in Gloucester, Virginia. Their beers are not only exceptional in taste, but they do everything they can to be as green and sustainable as possible and use as many Virginia sources as they can find―the better to do right by their community. With a 7-barrel system for mainstays and a half-barrel pilot system for experimental brews and collaborations, they keep things fresh and sell everything they brew on-site.
